Dassault Falcon is the business aviation division of Dassault Aviation, a French aerospace company headquartered in Saint-Cloud, near Paris, France. Dassault Aviation was founded in 1929 by Marcel Dassault and is one of the last major European aerospace companies to remain under significant family ownership, with the Dassault family retaining a controlling stake in the publicly traded firm. The Falcon business jet line originated in the 1960s with the Mystere 20, later marketed as the Falcon 20, and has since encompassed a succession of trijet and twinjet business aircraft distinguished by their aerodynamic refinement, fuel efficiency, and operational flexibility. The current Falcon product lineup includes the Falcon 2000LXS large-cabin twinjet, the Falcon 900LX trijet, and the flagship Falcon 8X ultra-long-range trijet with a range of 6,450 nautical miles. Dassault is also developing the Falcon 6X, a wide-body twinjet designed to offer the largest cross-section cabin in business aviation, and the Falcon 10X, an ultra-long-range aircraft with intercontinental capabilities and a cabin height and width exceeding those of competing models. Falcon jets are manufactured at Dassault Aviation facilities in France, including Merignac near Bordeaux, with interior completion centers in Little Rock, Arkansas, in the United States. The Falcon trijet configuration, used in the 900LX and 8X, provides enhanced short-field performance and operational flexibility, allowing access to airports that many competing large-cabin jets cannot use. Dassault Falcon operates a global network of factory-owned and authorized service centers providing maintenance and support. Dassault Aviation also manufactures the Rafale military fighter jet, and technologies developed for military programs frequently inform Falcon business jet development, including digital flight controls, advanced aerodynamics, and composite structural techniques.
