Kitzbühel is a medieval town and luxury ski resort in the Tyrolean Alps of Austria, situated at approximately 800 meters above sea level between the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Hahnenkamm mountains. The town's history dates to the 12th century, when it developed as a copper and silver mining settlement. The skiing is predominantly intermediate, with the notable exception of the Streif itself, which drops 860 meters over 3.3 kilometers at gradients exceeding 85 percent in places. The resort typically enjoys a long season from late October to mid-April, aided by extensive snowmaking.
